I'm looking to create a local business directory theme that is SEO-optimized. Each implementation of the custom theme you create will focus on just one type of business, so there won't be a need for categories.
The landing (index) page will have the header, top navigation bar, a "request a quote" form, and just below the quote request form will be a directory listing formatted similar to [url removed, login to view] ([url removed, login to view]).
The "request a quote" form on the landing page should be compatible with WuFoo's API ([url removed, login to view]). The request a quote form should be an option that can be turned on or off, as some niches won't require it.
When a visitor clicks on any of the listings they should be taken to the company's profile page which should be formatted similar to Google Places, complete with map and space for the webmaster to place ads under the map. ([url removed, login to view]:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=orlando+realtor&fb=1&gl=us&hq=realtor&hnear=Orlando,+FL&cid=14452663371712822056&ei=goy7TajTBM-ftweW7IjhBQ&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=placepage-link&resnum=5&ved=0CFMQ4gkwBA)
Ads should be easily managed from the backend and allow the Admin to place banner ads on the home page between the request-a-quote form and the directory listing of businesses (728x90 or 468x60). Ads can also be placed on the sidebar of the homepage, content pages, and the right side of a company's profile page in any one of the following formats: four 125 x 125 ads, 300 x 250, and 160 x 600. AdSense should also be an option in those places on the site in those sizes.
A web visitor must register with the site in order to post a review. They must verify their email before they can post a review. A business must register with the site before they can add their business to the directory or edit their information. In addition to the business, the Admin should be able to add business listings and build profile pages for businesses. A business should be able to click on a "claim ownership of this business" button similar to Google Places, which then sends the Admin an email with the business address and phone number listed. The admin can then contact the business, create a login and email that info to the business owner so they can edit their profile page. So a business will have two ways to be listed on the site: claim their existing listing, or register and add their business listing.
A "light box" or pop-up should be able to be set-up by the Admin. This pop-up will show up at any specified time after the website is loaded. Time is specified in seconds, and a "0" will load the pop-up instantly. This pop-up will have the same "request a quote" form featured on the home page. This pop-up should be optional for the Admin to set-up, and the Admin can have the option to exclude the pop-up from happening on the homepage, content pages, or profile pages. Check [url removed, login to view] for a sample of this feature, it will take about 60-120 seconds to show up.
There should be a blog post section on the website as well in case the webmaster wants to build page rank and authority. This will appear as separate link on the navigation bar. The blog posts should automatically ping the search engines. The blog post section should be optional and set by the Admin.
Lastly, the business owner should be alerted when they get a new review on the site, and have the ability to respond to the review. The reviewer should be altered if the biz owner responds to their review on the profile page.
Thanks, I hope I've made my outline clear enough to give you an idea of what I want.
