What I need is a program that I can use to tell me exactly how many parts I can cut from a sheet of rectangular material. What I need the program to be able to do is let me (the user) input various sized parts in this format:
Part name - Width - Length - Quantity
ADJ1 - 22 1/2" - 96 1/16" - 8
ADJ2 - 13 5/16" - 44" - 14
etc. ( the - representing column breaks)
The units must be in inches and to the 1/16 of an inch. The quantity of parts that can be entered really needs to be unlimited as I have had some jobs that only have 2 part sizes and some that have had thousands.
Once the parts have been entered, I need to be able to enter my sheet sizes (from which the parts will be cut). The sheets should be able to be entered much in the same way:
Width - Length - Quantity
Again, the units must be in inches and I need to be able to enter multiple sheet sizes.
When I cut the smaller parts from the large sheets the saw itself is 1/4" wide, so that needs to be taken into account as to how many parts I can get out of a sheet and how close the parts can be placed next to each other in the layout.
After inputting the information, the user needs to be able to look at the data quantified in front of him showing how many sheets of material are needed to cut the number of parts entered. The program also needs to show patterns of the parts on the larger sheets. Another parameter that needs to be taken into account for this program is that sometimes the parts will not be able to be rotated to find the best fit on the sheet (i.e. the length cannot take place of the width and vice versa), so that should be an option that can be turned on or off.
I have some screen shots of an old program that I have used that I can supply to the winning bidder to help them get a visual, but I am looking for something that is less complicated and that I can easily teach my other employees how to use. The purpose of this program is to help me order the correct amount of material from which to cut the parts while having as little wasted material as possible.
