The site is to be designed for students to submit their editorials for review and publication on the website, which will broken down into menu catagories.
Students will need to register on the site to submit their stories. The registration process will involve setting up a profile as well. Once registered and login details have been received, the user can log into their account and view their homepage.
From here they can review and amend their profile, and upload their story. To upload their story, they will have the choice of downloading 3 Word templates as the format.
They can then download the chosen template, create their story, and then upload the story to their chosen directory.
Once the story is uploaded, it is held in a ‘pending’ area ready for review by editors. The story will them be reviewed by 3 editors and each one will give it marks from 1 to 5. If the story reaches a reserved mark, then it is marked as ‘ready to release’ and moved to an area for the site owner to release the story to the site. Here the story will be marked as ‘Free to read’, ‘Register to read’ or ‘Pay to read’.
Once the story is released to the site, it will appear in the chosen category, and on the homepage.
The story will be displayed with the heading and first paragraph, with a read more option. Depending on the type of story, users will either read from the read more link, or will need to register or pay to read the entire story.
Every story will be automatically archived after 1 month. Users can still access the stories through archive, which will have a search facility. The search facility will work by keyword, picking up the heading and content of each story.
The stories will be displayed in order of those most viewed (at the top), but with the ability to override that in admin.
Users will also have the ability to rate stories when they read them, and there will also be a facility for users to apply to be story ‘raters’ as well..
A rotating ads module needs to also be included for banner ads which will be run of site, and for smaller ads which will be visible on selected sections of the website.
The site will also have a forum for registered users to post messages.
The admin side of the site will contain the following modules:-
Menu category management – where admin can edit and create new categories for the menu.
Stories pending – this is where stories are held when waiting to be read by editors
Ready to release – once a story has been reviewed and is marked as ready to be released, it will be changed into this area ready for the site owner to select the ‘release’ button and release the story to the website.
User management – this is where admin can view all registered users, and amend any details for each user, if they want.
Advert management – this is where admin will place ads on the site and manage existing ads. They will also be able to see how many clickthroughs each ad has had.
Forum moderator – admin will have the ability to delete messages from the forum, and suspend members
Reporting – reporting interface to show paid for stories report.
