Website: [url removed, login to view]
Currently Joomla! 2.5.9., based on Artisteer template, with K2.
The multilingual (English, French, Portuguese) site is for an artist and intended to do the following:
1) Showcase the artist’s work. This is the main job. It should allow the paintings to be seen well and quickly, in other words fast load time, but enlarged too, when users will accept a slower load time. The main showing of the paintings will probably be a slideshow, and each image should have the following information attached:
a) technical details: title, size, year
b) brief description
c) link to a page devoted to the painting in question, with the painting, technical details and a longer description, followed by a comments/discussion area. This must be protected from spam as best as possible.
Important site-wide functions include:
. Short, human-friendly URLs, eg, [url removed, login to view] instead of [url removed, login to view];view=itemlist&layout=category&task=category&id=8&Itemid=159&lang=en
. sign-up to The Antonino Museum newsletter (will be via aweber)
. being able to “like” The Antonino Museum facebook page without leaving the site
. signing up to the Twitter account
. probably G+ too
. Donate buttons (is PayPal the only and/or best option?)
. Integration with YouTube channel
Recommendations wanted here: pros and cons of associating the site with 3 different fb pages and 3 twitter accounts, 1 for each language?
2) Various “about” + logistic pages. More or less the same as those under the About menu now. Some of these can have intros on home page. I’d like suggestions as to best way of presenting this.
For now, we are planning on selling special reproductions (see About > Sponsorship page) for start-up funding, individual sections of paintings. Each one will have a buy button using PayPal.
In time, a shopping cart will be needed
3) Blog, comments to be allowed, but protected from spam.
Is having a guest book relevant these days? Or is it enough to have facebook “like” widgets scattered around?
Is joomla! effective for squeeze pages?
Would the site be better in Wordpress? If so, does WP manage multilingual sites well?
We want to allow free download images of paintings for private or commercial use. Since the files are for life-size reproduction, they will be large. Best suggestion for this?
Questions and/or Proposals please.
