We are creating a social networking site that is focused on helping people orchestrate and execute large-scale and long-term projects. We will do this first by creating a searchable network where groups create project profiles that specify the needs and goals of their project. Other users will create provider profiles where they offer services.
In the long term, we want our site function as an open source human operating system. We're looking for a programmer who can help us build the kernel. We'll begin with a small suite of key applications that allows users to manage their profiles and find each other through search and an evolved form of tagging.
The site will need:
* Front end user interface for managing profiles and communicating with other members. Standardization, simplicity, and intuitiveness are the main criteria.
* Administrative back end.
* An open structure that will facilitate the integration of new tools and innovations by the user community.
* A wiki or wiki-like knowledge base where users share experiences, successful project models, etc.
[url removed, login to view] -- not very open, but has a simple and standardized interface (unlike MySpace), and uses tags to link interest groups in an effective way.
[url removed, login to view] -- lets users initiate pickup sports games or offer themselves as potential competitors. It is a clear analog to our projects/providers model, and is nicely executed on their site. We want to be a more open, complex, large-scale, long-term version of Sportsvite.
And we don't need to be as pretty as either of these sites. Functionality is our priority.
We recommend that you build the site on an existing open source CMS or other platform. This will save time, and will allow us to cooperate with an existing developer community. We want as much as possible to empower our users to build the platform that they need. We have many specific ideas about how the site will function, but we're looking for a programmer who will work with us to perfect our vision. We also invite your consultation on issues such as hosting, security, search engine optimization, etc.
Use your bid not only to offer a dollar figure, but to tell us everything you have to offer to this project. We seek vision and creativity as much as skill. Ideally, you would be located within commuting distance of New York City for occasional meetings, but we are willing to work long-distance with the right individual. We look forward to hearing from you.
