PLEASE NOTE: this is not a regular WordPress site - it has some non-standard functionality and therefore we are only interested in ADVANCED devs. We will only consider you if you have read the brief carefully and are able to prove you have the skills to complete the work. Sorry, but we have had too many problems with chancers and blaggers in the past!
We are looking for a web developer to modify and optimise an existing website running on a localhost server.
The site has been set up on a Wampserver installation (Windows 10 x64) from a backup of this site: [login to view URL]
The local machine is a touchscreen kiosk which will be displaying only the Fossil Finder section of the site for users of the kiosk to browse. It will be displayed using the Chromium Embedded Framework, which is important as I've noticed a difference in performance between that and Edge.
The CSS has already been modified on the local site so that only the Fossil Finder section of the site is accessible.
However, the site is running very slowly compared to the live site. It's running on WordPress, but the previous developer found it more complex than a standard WordPress installation and took a while to get it working. He was able to do some optimisation, but that was limited mainly to disabling unwanted plugins. I've made a recording of the site in action here: [login to view URL]
The main bottleneck appears to be where the JSON data is compiled for the search results, though the response times for the site in general (e.g. individual item pages) are pretty long.
There are also some functionality fixes we would like to make. Please see the below:
- The search results are not always correctly updated when changing the filters while a previous request is being made.
- If you select a filter in the top section of the screen, the filter is applied and the results below are updated. If you select an item to view it, and then return to the list screen via the Back button, the previously selected filters are still selected, but the results list below doesn't reflect this.
- Therefore, we would like the back button to return to the results screen as it was left i.e. same filters applied and same items visible on screen - preferably at the same scroll position too.
- Also, the Reset Search button doesn't appear to work.
We will provide the TeamViewer login details for the dev to work on the kiosk directly.
