Autonomous Snow Removal Robot Path Planning Using NVIDIA Jetson Nano and Unitree LiDAR Project Overview: We are seeking an experienced developer with expertise in edge computing, robotics, and LiDAR data processing to develop a path-planning solution for an autonomous snow removal robot. This robot is designed to clear snow from sidewalks, driveways, and large open areas such as office building premises and mall parking lots. You will have access to the lidar remotely during development. I need a software program that does the functions I described. Key Objectives: Hardware Integration: Utilize the NVIDIA Jetson Nano edge compute module for efficient processing. Process real-time point cloud data from the Unitree LiDAR sensor. LiDAR Data Processing: Step 0: Connect the lidar to Nvidia nano. Collect point cloud for visualization in ROS or ROS2. step 1: Mapping: Create a map of the environment (sidewalks/driveways) when no snow is on the ground. Extract boundaries of the sidewalk, driveway and road. Also extract features in landscape that can be used to localize the robot when there is 1 foot of snow on the ground. Essentially create a map for use when snow is to be cleared. The snow when cleared has to stored in the designated areas along the path (typically on the grass next to sidewalk). Display the segmented area and features in ROS / ROS2. Segments - Sidewalk / driveway ; road ; grass / snow storage areas ; other non drivable areas. Step 3: Path Planning and obstacle detection: When the robot / lidar is placed on the sidewalk or driveway (anywhere within the map) - create a cleaning path (robot moves up/down to clear snow). detect moving objects in front of lidar (20 feet ahead in the path) ; stop to let moving objects go , then continue cleaning. If a obstacle is in the path - move around it if possible - else give a alarm signal for operator /user. System Performance: Optimize the solution for real-time operation on the NVIDIA Jetson Nano platform. Ensure low latency and high accuracy in path planning and execution. Scalability and Versatility: Design the system to handle various operational scales, from small residential sidewalks to large commercial spaces. Include configurable parameters for different snow removal requirements. Deliverables: Fully integrated software solution for processing Unitree LiDAR point clouds on the NVIDIA Jetson Nano. Path-planning algorithm tailored for snow removal tasks. Timeline: We aim to have a functional prototype within 3 months of project initiation. For edge computing I have worked on quantizing models for mobile devices where I did small object segmentation and detection models for nails segmentation and playing cards games.
