I will outline exactly which software you will need, I can recommend which desktop or laptop computers you should use and I will provide you with a full UML digram and Node diagram outlining how to achieve a robotic system which will do what you want. I am experienced in object oriented design using ROS2. I notice you have mentioned you would like to use ROS and so I can recommend and explain the differences between ROS and ROS2 to inform your decision. I can suggest simulation software for you to design and test your project in advance before the G1 arrives which will greater allow you to start real time testing as soon as it arrives. I think this particular project is very similar to your project. It is a robot which navigates an unknown space, and when it discovers a new item it logs it in a system. There is a user interactive system which allows the user to receive notifications and alerts in real time.
