With the advent of increased, workplace dynamics are changing. Gender differences in the workplace account for differences in a lot of factors. One of these is conflict. As subordinates become more autonomous, work-teams increase and supervisors take on leadership roles, conflict is almost inevitable. However, it is not the conflict itself that is important as important is how that conflict is handled and resolved. This study will aim at understanding gender differences and conflict management styles and what, if any, differences exist in the conflict management styles of experienced and less experienced managers. As different managers have different management styles, this study will also touch upon an ancillary component of conflict management which is the relationship between management style and conflict resolution effectiveness.
Purpose of the Study
The purpose of the study is to investigate the following research questions:
R1: Do significant differences exist between conflict management styles of men and women in an organization?
R2: Do significant differences exist between conflict management styles of experienced and less experienced managers?
R3: Is there a relationship between management style and conflict resolution effectiveness?
Literature review will be conducted to develop a theoretical framework before launching the study.
The participants of this study will be managers from xxxxx and the sample size will be kept at 100 respondents. A combination of Random and Quota sampling will be used in order to select participants from the relevant population.
Sources of Information and Instruments
The sources of information used will be both primary and secondary. Primary research will be conducted via survey by means a survey questionnaire based on the ROCI-II (Rahim Organizational Conflict Inventory- II) (Rahim, 1983).
Once the responses will have been collected the data will be given statistical treatment to compile results which will then constitute the discussion of the research questions and their implications. This will be followed by a conclusion and some appendices.
