As Director of Music at a parish church in the UK, I would like to appeal to potential new members to come and join our choir on a regular weekly basis. Ours is a traditional four-part choir comprising Sopranos, Altos, Tenors, Basses (SATB). It is a mixed junior/adult and male/female choir. The Soprano line is (unusually in the current climate) very strong (we already have 16 children), but we desperately need more singers for the Alto, Tenor and Bass sections. We are good - we do high quality stuff, and we often sing at cathedrals.
The choral tradition in parish churches is generally in decline. I have been at this church for almost 7 years and have reversed the decline here. I now need to buck the general trend and take this choir to the next level. Ideally I would like a double choir (following the cathedral model), where two full complements of the four parts (Soprano, Altos, Tenors and Basses) sit opposite each other across the choir stalls - this allows for much bigger works to be performed.
Current numbers: 17 Sopranos, 1 Alto, 1 Tenor, 1 Bass
Target numbers: 18-25 Sopranos, 3-5 Altos, 3-5 Tenors, 4-6 Basses

I need a recruitment strategy that will work in the local area, that will attract good, committed members who can read music, and sing on a voluntary basis.
Please note, at this stage I am looking for someone with the necessary skills to develop a workable strategy - this is not the recruitment exercise itself, but will define the approach, the target audience, and the steps required to implement the strategy. Hint: this might extend to designing promotional materials.
