I'm looking for help in researching tractors used on a specific type of farm. I want to know what the machine I'm designing should use. I do not know what the important factors are in choosing a tractor. How long do they last? Will they have enough strength to tow my machine on a farm? How do you change the width of the tractor for farms with different row sizes? Are the tractors changeable at all or do you simply buy a once size tractor? Do the row sizes on the farms vary? Is it worth manufacturing our own tractor. There are open source designs now for tractors. Here is an example: [url removed, login to view]
Would such a design make sense on an industrial machine? Maybe not, but I'd like to back up that assumption with proof.
So, I would like your help in choosing a tractor for my agricultural machine that optimizes costs and longevity. If needed, we can design our own tractor. But, only if it's worth it. I need your help to find out if it is. I also need your help in determining the requirements that the tractor will have to meet for the types of farms we are interested in.
