I am a biologist and I am evaluating genetic studies (1000 people have a genetic error, the other 1000 do not) to write a review of them.
My understanding is, that for genetic variations that are common and have a large effect, smaller study sizes are sufficient to reach adequate statistical relevance than for rare genetic variants that have a small effect.
The concept I am interested, but not versed in is well summarized in this publication:

If you are a scientist or statistician that can explain the concept to me and also help me evaluate the power of individual genetic studies, this job is for you.
Communication would be by email and skype chat. I may ask you to read and write your opinion of statistical power on individual scientific studies.
I need a statistics expert that can help me understand the concept of Statistical Power in smaller studies
