This is a five page APA essay which is due on the 12th of October. Here are my instructions. Please do full complete paragraphs and use times new roman size 12, double spaced. Only use the article that is given.
The Abstract is one paragraph of 150 to 250 words. This is a brief summary of what was studied and why. The abstract includes information about the article topic and research that is being explored, brief information about demographics (who is being studied), summarization of the types of research/methods used, mention the results, and any conclusions. Make sure to give credit to your source IMMEDIATELY upon mentioning it, EVERY time you mention it, and for sure at the end of this paragraph.
Answer the following questions inside your abstract:
1) Research question
a) What are the hypotheses being tested by the researchers? Be aware that very often you will find MORE THAN ONE hypothesis; in that case, indicate ALL of them.
b) Upon what theory or previous research are the hypotheses based (summarize briefly)?
2) Study sample
a) Ages of subjects (tell the range, mean, and standard deviation)
b) Characteristics (e.g., breakdown of gender, ethnicity, SES, education)
c) Exclusion or inclusion criteria (e.g., eligibility criteria to participate in study)
d) Sample size. This is usually indicated by either a capital letter N or a lower case letter n. If the researchers had a sample size greater than 30, they should use a capital N. If their sample size was less than 30, they should use a lower case n. The reason for using a capital letter (N) vs. a lower case letter (n) is to indicate either a “large group sample” (N) or a small group sample (n). That is important as the statistical methodology used to analyse the date is dependent on the size of the sample.
a) Indicate what kind of measure (or measures) was (were) used (e.g., interview, questionnaire, checklist, etc.).
b) Tell which variable(s) or factor(s) was(were) being measured (e.g., Was there a change in behaviour, a change in a physiological function such as blood pressure or pulse rate? What – if any – change or changes were observed if something was observed and then measured?) You must be VERY SPECIFIC when responding to this question.
4) Study procedures
a) How were participants recruited and assigned to groups (if applicable)? Was there a control group?
b) Describe the procedures involved in the study.
c) Discuss the duration (length of time involved) of the study (e.g., cross-sectional vs. longitudinal) and specify time of follow-up (if applicable).
5) Study results
a) Were the hypotheses supported by the results?
b) What factors or variables may have influenced the results, and how did the researchers control for these factors (if at all)?
You MUST mention and give in-text citations for the article that you read. Always remember that for every in-text citation you have (e.g., Smith, 2011), you
Body of Paper
-The Summary should be approx 8-10 sentences that provide a more detailed summary of the article: more details on what was studied, history of this issue, and why the researcers felt this was an important topic to study.
-The Review will be several pages long. The Review includes the "details" of the article: who - how - when - where of the research. Answer the questions that you find in the Review section of the Article Critique and the APA Template.
-The Comments will be approx. half a page. What you feel about the article.
