I have a BIM model available both as a native Revit file and as an IFC export and I need a precise steel material take-off pulled from it. The scope is limited to steel only—no concrete or timber—covering beams, columns and reinforcing elements throughout the entire model. I expect a detailed breakdown rather than a simple total: quantities by member type, profile, length, weight and any bolts or plates that Revit/IFC schedules can expose. Please extract the information directly from the model so the report can be cross-referenced back to element IDs for traceability. Deliverables • An itemised excel (or CSV) schedule listing every steel beam, column and reinforcement, with section size, length, count and tonnage. • A brief PDF summary highlighting total tonnage and any model discrepancies you spot. • Screenshots or a marked-up Revit/IFC view that shows where any excluded or ambiguous elements were found. I will supply the Revit (.rvt) file plus the corresponding IFC once you accept the job. Let me know which Revit version you prefer and any add-ins (e.g., Navisworks, Excel plug-ins) you plan to use so we stay compatible. Turnaround within five days would be ideal, but tell me if you need longer.

Could the Revit and IFC models be cross-checked against each other to make sure the steel take-off is both complete and traceable back to the original element IDs? I’m an architectural designer with experience in Revit/BIM modeling and technical documentation. I can extract the steel elements directly from the provided model, organize beams, columns and reinforcement by profile, length, quantity and weight, and structure the schedule so individual elements can be traced back to the model. I’d also compare the Revit and IFC data where appropriate to identify missing, duplicated or ambiguous elements, with screenshots/marked-up views for anything that needs clarification. I can provide the itemised Excel/CSV schedule and a concise PDF summary within the requested five-day timeframe. For compatibility, I’d prefer to work with the Revit version of the supplied ".rvt" file and use the IFC as a cross-check rather than relying on a separate add-in unless the model requires one. Thanks, Anthony

Hello, I have experience extracting steel material take-offs from Revit and IFC models, including beams, columns, reinforcement, plates, bolts, member profiles, lengths, weights, and traceable element IDs. I am a good fit because your project needs a detailed, model-based steel schedule that can be checked back against the BIM file, not just a rough tonnage total. I will review the RVT and IFC files, extract all steel elements directly from the model, and organize the data by member type, profile, length, count, weight, tonnage, and available IDs. I prefer Revit 2022–2025 and can use Revit schedules, Navisworks, IFC viewers, and Excel/CSV workflows to keep the report accurate and easy to verify. I will also provide a PDF summary with total tonnage, model discrepancies, and marked screenshots for any excluded or unclear items. Thanks for reading my proposal. Edwin

BIM Steel Material Take-Off Proposal Hi, I can help you turn the Revit/IFC model into a fully traceable steel material take-off, not just a lump-sum tonnage. I’ll extract and organize the steel scope across the entire model, including beams, columns, reinforcement, plates and bolts where the model exposes them, with each item tied back to its element ID for easy verification. What you’ll receive: Detailed Excel/CSV schedule with member type, profile/section, length, quantity, weight and tonnage Element IDs for model traceability Separate identification of beams, columns and reinforcement Bolts/plates included where reliably available in the Revit/IFC data PDF summary with total steel tonnage and key model discrepancies Screenshots/marked-up views for excluded, duplicated, missing or ambiguous elements Cross-check between the RVT and IFC to identify inconsistencies I’ll also make sure the final schedule is structured so it can be filtered and checked easily by member type, section size and element ID. I can work with the Revit version you provide and use the available Revit/IFC schedules and extraction workflow without requiring you to modify the model unnecessarily. Five days is workable for me for a typical model, subject to the model size and level of detail.

Hi there, I already have experience with Revit, IFC coordination, BIM model extraction, Excel schedules, and working with model data for accurate quantity take-offs. I understand you need a traceable steel-only take-off where every quantity can be checked against the original Revit/IFC elements. I can extract beams, columns, and available reinforcing elements directly from the model, including member type, profile/section, length, count, weight/tonnage, and exposed plates or bolts. I’ll preserve the relevant element IDs so the schedule can be cross-referenced back to the model. I’ll deliver an organized Excel/CSV schedule, a concise PDF summary of total tonnage and discrepancies, plus marked-up screenshots for ambiguous or excluded elements. I’ll also verify the Revit and IFC results against each other where possible and keep the report clean and easy to audit. I can complete the take-off within your preferred five-day timeframe.

Hi Your project requires a detailed take-off of steel elements from both a Revit model and an IFC export, focusing specifically on beams, columns, and reinforcement. The core challenge here is extracting data accurately to ensure traceability back to element IDs, which involves precise manipulation of BIM schedules. I'll use Revit's built-in scheduling tools to extract all necessary data, combined with an Excel setup to format it for clarity and detail. My experience with Revit and structural engineering equips me to handle this effectively. I've previously completed similar tasks, like a comprehensive steel and concrete take-off for a commercial project using Revit, which improved inventory accuracy and reduced costs. I particularly appreciate the emphasis you've placed on traceability; it speaks to your attention to detail, which is crucial in construction management. I can deliver exactly what you're looking for and am ready to guide you through my process, or take a peek at your Revit files to align our tools and techniques. Thanks, David

Hi, The primary risk is mismatch between Revit families and IFC property sets which causes missing section sizes or lengths; I will validate element IDs and property mappings first to ensure traceability back to the model. I will flag any elements where Revit and IFC disagree and include screenshots pointing to those discrepancies. I have delivered multiple steel-only take-offs from native Revit and IFC exports for structural teams, producing itemised Excel/CSV schedules with section size, length, count, tonnage and linked element IDs, plus PDF summaries and annotated views for QA. I routinely extract bolt and plate data exposed in Revit schedules or IFC Psets and reconcile differences across exports for cross-referenceable reporting. I will open your .rvt in Revit (prefer Revit 2022, but I can accept 2021 or 2023 if you prefer), extract schedules via the Revit API and Dynamo, cross-check the IFC export using Navisworks / IfcOpenShell where needed, and output a row-per-element Excel/CSV plus a short PDF summary and marked-up views showing excluded or ambiguous elements. Turnaround: five days for typical models; I will advise immediately if model size or omissions require more time. - Do you want the final schedule grouped by member type then profile, or by profile then member type? - Which Revit version will you supply and do you want Navisworks NWC/NWD review included? Looking forward to hearing from you, Christopher

Steel take-offs can easily miss details, leading to costly inaccuracies. If members aren't itemized correctly, you risk delays and budget overruns. That's why I focus on precision, ensuring every beam, column, and reinforcement is clearly documented. I’d start by extracting data directly from the Revit model, pulling exact quantities and dimensions. This way, every element ID aligns with your needs for traceability. I’ll also highlight any discrepancies in my PDF summary to keep you informed of potential issues. In my past projects, I’ve managed similar take-offs, providing detailed reports with clear breakdowns. Revisions are part of my process, ensuring the final output meets your expectations. What version of Revit are you using, and do you have specific add-ins in mind for compatibility? Are there any existing reports or data formats you prefer?
