I want to turn my stock WowWee MiP into a fully-independent companion with far more capability than the original phone-controlled toy. The big push is to give it functional robotic arms—servo-driven, proportional, and strong enough to perform simple pick-and-place demos—while keeping the self-balancing chassis intact. To drive everything, I need an internal “brain” (Raspberry Pi, ESP32, or another MCU you’re comfortable with) that can: • run onboard code without any phone connection • store multiple programs in flash so I can swap behaviors on the fly • process a forward-facing camera for navigation and object tracking • handle voice-command triggers and speak back in character using a small speaker For interaction I’m leaning on two modes: spoken commands and a library of pre-programmed behaviors the robot can cycle through on its own. If you have clever tricks for gesture sensing or other inputs, I’m open, but they’re not essential for this first build. Mechanical integration is critical. We’ll need custom mounts or 3-D-printed brackets for the arm servos, a neat cable path that doesn’t affect balance, and clean access to the MiP’s power rails or a new battery pack if required. I can supply CAD files of the shell if that helps. Let’s outline milestones together—hardware selection, PCB/loom design, arm prototype, firmware, voice/sound personality scripts, and final integration—so I can see measurable progress. I’m happy to jump on calls, share photos, and overnight parts as needed. Just let me know your preferred stack, expected lead time, and any prior projects that prove you can make small robots both autonomous and expressive.

Hi there, I’ve read your Custom Autonomous MiP upgrade brief and I’m confident I can deliver a self-contained, arm-enabled MiP that stays balanced and runs autonomously. I’ve hands-on experience building compact robotics with onboard brains (RPi/ESP32), multi-behavior flash storage, camera-based navigation, and on-device voice interaction. I’ll design a compact stack that runs entirely without phone control, stores several programs in flash, and uses a forward-facing camera for tracking objects. I’ll implement voice triggers and speech with a small speaker, all on-device. For the arms, I’ll design two or three servo-driven joints with proportional control, strong enough for basic pick-and-place tasks, and mount them with 3D-printed brackets that don’t affect CoG. I’ll route cables cleanly and adapt the MiP’s power rails or add a compact pack if needed. If you provide CAD, I’ll align the mounts to your shell. Milestones: hardware and stack selection, loom/PCB design, arm prototype test, firmware with multiple programs, voice scripts, integration and field testing. I’ll deliver a staged plan with check-ins and a visible prototype each milestone. I’m happy to jump on calls and iterate quickly. To proceed, share your preferred stack, any must-have constraints, and target lead times. Then we can lock in a timeline and start with a quick proof-of-concept arm demo. 1) What is your preferred onboard brain: Raspberry Pi (which model) or ESP32, or something else? 2) How many ser

Hi, I can turn the MiP into a genuinely autonomous, expressive robot while preserving its self-balancing behavior and character. I’ve worked on small-scale robots where mechanical integration, power balance, and software architecture all have to coexist cleanly inside tight envelopes, and that’s exactly the challenge here. My approach treats this as a system upgrade, not a bolt-on mod. I’d define a stable internal control stack using either a Raspberry Pi paired with a real-time MCU or a high-performance MCU alone, depending on balance and power constraints. That brain would run fully offline, manage multiple stored behavior programs, process camera input for navigation and object tracking, and handle voice recognition and speech output locally. On the mechanical side, I’d design lightweight, servo-driven arms with printed mounts that respect MiP’s center of gravity, using clean cable routing and strain relief so balance isn’t compromised. Power would be carefully managed, either tapping regulated rails or introducing a dedicated battery with proper protection. Firmware, behavior scripts, and voice personality layers would be modular so you can expand capabilities later without rework. You’ll get clear milestones, documented hardware choices, tested firmware, and a robot that feels intentional—not hacked together. Regards, Asif Al Balushi

✅ Okay, I got what you want exactly. I am a robotics and embedded systems engineer with over 10 years of experience, providing end-to-end development across microcontrollers, Raspberry Pi, servo control, onboard vision, and mechanical integration for compact robots. In my opinion, the right way to upgrade the MiP is to keep its self-balancing system untouched while adding a lightweight, modular “upper body” driven by a dedicated brain that handles vision, voice, and behavior logic independently. I’d focus on tight weight distribution, smart power management, and expressive motion so the robot feels alive rather than hacked together. This project is very similar to my previous work. I’ve built a self-balancing service robot with dual 6-DOF micro-servo arms, where I designed custom 3D-printed mounts, tuned PID balance loops, and integrated an ESP32 + Raspberry Pi combo for vision and audio. On another project, I implemented offline voice commands, text-to-speech, and object tracking using a single forward camera, all running fully onboard without a phone. ✅ So, I will divide your project like following: ⚡ Hardware platform selection, power layout, and balance constraints review ⚡ Arm mechanics, servo sizing, and 3D-printed mount prototypes ⚡ Electronics, wiring loom, and firmware architecture ⚡ Vision, voice interaction, and behavior scripting ⚡ Final integration, tuning, and demo behaviors Best regards, Yaroslav
