Write an algorithm in C to estimate how much a buffer can be compressed -- 2

Are you good with maths and C programming and enjoy new interesting algorithms? I need you to write code in C (not C++) an existing algorithm which estimates how much a buffer (eg. a file) can be compressed. Note that it does not actually compress a buffer - it is not a compression algorithm. Instead it makes an estimate - it determines approximately how much a buffer can be compressed, and it does this very fast (if it wasn't fast there would be no point as we would just compress it to find out the size). The PDF describes two estimation algorithms (for RLE and LZ77), but I only need you to do the LZ77 one, not the RLE one. (And again just to be clear, this isn't the actual LZ77 algorithm, it's an algorithm which estimates how much an LZ77-based compressor could compress a buffer - much faster than actual compression). The resulting C program (a simple console app is all that's needed, nothing fancy) should simply accept one parameter (a filename), and then printf the compressibility of that file's data, eg "Compression estimation for this file: 36.789%" I am not in any particular rush for this, so if you need to take a few weeks that's fine - I need _quality_ code, not quick code! :) I look forward to working with you
