Forecasting stock prices project
For the the project assignment (350 points), below are traditional steps:
1. Select a stock from TADAUWL.
2. Download the closing prices for the past 250 trading days.
3. Plot the price time series using both scatter diagram and line graphs.
4. Add a trend line to your time series.
5. Apply simple moving average technique with multiple levels of moving average orders.
6. Apply simple exponential smoothing method with multiple levels of smoothing level Alpha
7. Apply fitting a trend line for your time series using the least squares estimate
8. Check stationarity of the time series before deciding on the choice of ARIMA models. if found to be non stationary, difference the time series by one period. If stationarity is achieved stop there, if not go for a second order differencing of one period for each.
9. Once the time series is stationary, run ARIMA (0,1,0), ARIMA (0,2,0), ARIMA (1,1,0), ARIMA (2,1,0) and ARIMA(3,1,0)
10. Estimate the coefficients for each model, and test for the significance of each estimated coefficient.
11. Indicate which one of those multiple models is providing the highest level of accuracy and minimum level of variation.
12. Forecast the prices for the next 20 days using all methods mentioned above.
