In my early twenties, I wrapped a rubber band around a growing ponytail whenever I rode my bicycle into the foothills. On the ridge, the rubber band snapped out of my fingers while walking to unwind. I'd been stretching the rubber band while looking nowhere in particular. I couldn't find it and continued walking, perhaps 150 to 250 yards down and up the incline (several times, as I remember, but I am unsure about this).
There was no traffic on the road.
I'd accepted the loss as I headed back to the bicycle to leave, and, the location where it snapped out of my fingers. What are the odds of stepping on the rubber band? I stopped randomly on my way back up the ridge road, walking over to the side of the road while looking out, over the valley.
