School Management and Organisational Hierarchy A clear, visual hierarchical structure from the governing body to classroom staff Defined lines of accountability and reporting Job titles, roles, and supervisory responsibilities for: Principal Head Teachers Department Heads Pastoral Leads Year Group Coordinators Teachers and Teaching Assistants Administrative and Support Staff 3. Relationships and Communication Protocols Professional relationship expectations between: Top Management (Principal/Board) and Middle Management Middle Management and Teaching/Support Staff Principal / Head Teachers and Teachers Channels for communication, decision-making, conflict resolution Leadership responsibilities in fostering a collaborative and respectful school culture 4. Teaching Staff Structure and Roles For all teaching staff (Early Years to Sixth Form), the manual should clearly outline: Job Descriptions For Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Heads of Departments, Year Leaders, and Subject Specialists Qualifications Minimum academic and professional requirements (e.g., PGCE, QTS, relevant degree) Responsibilities Curriculum planning and delivery, assessment, student welfare, parent communication, co-curricular involvement, safeguarding duties Experience Expectations Years of teaching, international experience, leadership competencies where applicable Job Limitations Scope of authority, confidentiality expectations, boundaries of classroom autonomy Sanctions & Disciplinary Measures Clear process for addressing underperformance, misconduct, or policy violations, including verbal warnings, written warnings, and termination protocols 5.
