I am looking to hire a Solidworks Industrial Designer with Sheet Metal (and more) experience for my instrument enclosure design. Please see requirements below. The requirements are strict. I need highly capable and professional candidates. The instrument is a small (~300mm x 250mm x 250mm max) instrument for the dairy industry and will be located in humid environment. I will share details as noted below with candidates that I am considering choosing. I would like to see examples of existing work. I am not asking for full access to your work, just descriptions, screenshots, etc. Whatever you are comfortable to share.
I know it is hard to bid without all the details. I am comfortable adjusting things if necessary for the right candidate. I will also guarantee payment once a candidate is chosen and will pay 50% up front, 40% when final model design is done and the last 10% when the final manufacturing drawings are delivered.
Required Skills: (Requirements you must meet!)
Proficient in Solidworks, using Solidworks sheet metal tools, to create well organized models and detailed manufacturing drawings
Experience in Industrial Design
Experience in sheet metal laboratory instrument enclosure design
Excellent English communication skills
Ability to interpret written design requirements to develop concept
Ability to design for manufacturability to reduce excess cost
Proven track record of similar work with positive reviews will have preference
Design Outputs (deliverables by you):
1) Concept design:
a) Can be as simple as sketches or as complex as models and renders
b) Simply needs to communicate general direction and interpretation of design inputs
2) Preliminary Model Design
a) Make models of internal components (only rough models with space and critical hole locations)
b) Solidworks proper sheet metal design
c) Uses Solidworks sheet metal tools to simplify changes of sheet metal thickness and bend radius, etc.
d) Smart design, best practices for industry.
e) No need for drawings at this stage
f) Does not need every dimensional detail worked out but should be 80+% feature complete
g) Should make good use of main and sub-assemblies
h) Materials and finishes should be decided
3) Final Model Design
a) Full Solidworks 2016 assembly model containing subassemblies and components
b) 100% feature complete
c) Models to be delivered in Native format with references in tact (pack and go)
4) Final Manufacturing Drawings
a) Should be drawings for every manufactured component in the assembly.
b) Manufacturing drawings
c) ISO standard
d) Materials specified
e) Finishes specified
f) Tolerances specified as appropriate
g) Native Solidworks drawings and PDF copies
h) Assembly should have full BOM including fasteners
i) Use of Solidworks toolbox optional
Design Input (provided to you by me)
1) Design Definition
a) Complete, detailed description of design requirements
b) Complete, detailed description of end use
c) Link to competing products (there are only a couple)
d) Any other information you need
NOTE: I am the sole developer of this product. I can answer any questions you have. Questions are good. Communication is critical and I understand you can’t do your job without a proper definition.
2 Supporting Models
a) Pictures and sketches of models of the components that will mount to enclosure such as switch, PCBs, connectors, fans, mini PC, X:Y table, etc.
b) These may be crude, but they will be sufficient for design consideration.
3) Early concepts
a) I have my own early concept models and will share them if they are not used as a basis for your design. (Note: I am not happy with my concept design as I am not an industrial designer and have limited knowledge of sheet metal industry and tools.)
The design will have some critical areas where attention has to be taken. 1) A small moveable “front door” (Spring loaded) where a carriage (attached to a X:Y table) will exit from inside to receive a test cartridge; 2) a special switch extension from an internal mini PC to the front and 3) the overlap of the cover to the rack bottom must be made in a way that it protects the internal components against external water spray.
