This would be a livestream. We typically pay first time contributors $200 USD, but we are willing to negotiate a slightly higher rate depending on how extensive the research and stream is. We are looking for human interest stories that look further into the protests. Please send along a pitch with your interests if applicable, but any applications will be reviewed.
We expect you to have an iPhone 6 or newer (or a comparable Android) with a solid data plan, an external battery, headphones with a mic, and general awareness for how to do a live stream. We’ll go over the specifics as each pitch is approved.
We expect that you are punctual and arrive on time to both the connectivity tests and the call time. If you do not arrive on time and it affects our ability to produce a high quality stream (for instance, if essential pre-production time is missed), we reserve the right to cancel the live stream as well as your payment. If for other reasons we call off the story, we provide a $100 kill fee.
Two connectivity tests prior to livestream. The first one typically takes 20 minutes tops and is done in the days leading up to stream, hours if it’s a breaking story. The second is done when you are on the scene about 30 minutes or so before you actually go live.
- 3-5 mobile phone photos prior to live stream for our use on social media and for thumbnails
- 40 minutes of streaming to however long it takes to do the story (typically, the streams go 45 minutes to an hour).
- A tweet from your personal Twitter account of the stream once it’s over (and a post on Instagram shouting out @HappsNews if suitable)
