I am looking to take some Excel charts & make them interactive.
In example, I have two data sets in a pie chart (one data set for Bill & one for Sally) that measures % of total household income each of them brings home. I also have a bar chart on the same worksheet that has the same two data sets (Bill & Sally), but the bar chart measures years of experience. I would want something that when you select Bill's data series in the pie chart, the bar chart would automatically refresh to only show Bill's data. Kind of along the lines of Microsoft 2013 Power View, but this code would need to work for embedded charts in Excel 2010.
Ideally - I would like 'generic' VBA code or a Macro so that I can copy the code to any workbook and have the same functionality. I would imagine this would probably have to be done with Chart Events in VBA. I am fine with having to edit SOME code attributes (i.e. changing chart names in the code) to make this work. As you can tell - I am a VBA programming novice that has a basic understanding of VBA, but nothing to this extent.
I would like this done as soon as possible, but there is not a set deadline. I would like this to stay a small project & budget friendly if possible.
Please reach out with any questions & I look forward to working with whomever!
As mentioned above, Microsoft has something similar with Power View in 2013, but it has many drawbacks that wont work for me. Nevertheless, here is a video I found that gives a general idea of what I'm looking to do in the graphs in Excel 2010: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjLoPg76uRg .
Just to clarify - the example listed above with Sally & Bill is a very simplified version of what I am trying to achieve. I will have 3-5 graphs in any given worksheet that will need to interact with each other & the graphs could be a combination of pie charts, bar charts, or line charts. The graphs will need to all be linked with each other (in example, chart one can control chart two and chart three, chart three can control chart one and chart two, ect). Also, there could be a varying number of series in the chart - some may have 3 series of data in the graph and some may have 20. Again - I urge you to watch the YouTube video link above as that is essentially what I want in an Excel 2010 file.
I'll reiterate this again - the biggest 'want' with this project is that I can take what you create & I can apply the code into different workbooks to make them interactive as well with little modification.
I thought I was clear originally in the post, but possibly not. Please adjust your bid accordingly.
Thanks again & sorry for any confusion. Please reach out with any questions & I truly do look forward to working with you!!!
