Need a utility to merge multiple delimited (comma or tab) text files in horizontal fashion. Functionality needs to include:
1 - exclusion of columns by position (not used by the exampled files attached)
2 - exclusion of duplicate columns (indicated by the first/header row of all files containing text values being duplicated across columns)
3 - user naming of output file
4 - capable of merging 100 csv files
Using the attached files as example:
The first two (tagged Merge Test) files are merged to the file named Result. In Result, the first 36 columns (A-AJ in Excel) occur only once even though each of the source files contained the same column. In the example, it is always the first 36 columns which are duplicated, in my real situation, other fields are duplicated in random positions but always with a duplicate value in the first row of the file (or header record if you will).
- Utility can run under Windows 7 or OSX 10.6
- can be Excel VB (using Excel 2010 for Windows) module code or add-in
This project is a small part of a larger project requiring monthly processing of text files and importing to a mySQL database, which may include some verification steps on source formatting as it tends to change occasionally. I will consider working on a more comprehensive project with somebody who can deliver on this first step successfully.
Similar functionality can be found in the program here ([login to view URL]), which lacks the ability to manage duplicate columns.
