Hello fellow writers. I'm reaching out in hopes to find a collaborator. I've finished the first 2 drafts of a script i've been working on the past week. The first draft was actually a scriptment (treatment+script). The backstory of the script involves a treatment that started to get some buzz and I was asked to put a rush on fleshing out a full script, so I've spent the last 3 or 4 days banging out a full script, titled Matt Lewandowski and the Purple People.
I'm at the stage now where it needs polishing. It also needs a feminine voice that I couldn't capture in the first couple drafts. That doesn't necessarily mean I need a female collaborator, keep that in mind.
Key Strengths I need from the collaborator(s)
- Dark Comedy, Subtle Comedy: This is not the OVERALL tone of the film but it is the underlying tone and being able to navigate humor through a plot that at times shifts to very serious and very political themes. That's a difficult balance I am well aware so be prepared to meet the challenge.
- Authenticity: I am hoping to stay connected on the project as a Director/ Assistant Director to guide production and ensure this difficult balance of being light and dark doesn't get lost on screen so I will hopefully be able to allow a good deal of improvisation, allowing for HONEST moments based on the character/Actors feeling during the scene. What i'd like to do is lay the ground work for that authenticity. I'd like to blur that line between "that's how people really talk" and "this is movie dialogue" ---- Again I'm aware that is a Herculean task but I have faith there is an amazing writer out there ready to tackle it.
- I may hire other fact checkers but if you have a crack group of researchers or people to verify elements of your script, I'll keep that in mind when working out pay. Things that would need fact checking on specifically is in regards to how I twist Economic Theory, Legislative Practices, Hacking, and Military Strategy. Remember it's a film but we want the audience to think, could that happen and we want the answer to be a resounding, Well Maybe.
- Be within 80 miles -- I'm old school I want to be able to sit down in a room, politely argue over ideas and act scenes out as we're writing them, hear ourselves out loud. So I definitely want to meet to work on the script.
Please be able to hang your political beliefs at the door. The film takes an almost anarchist slant at politics and I was highly influenced by the works of Philosopher Albert Camus when writing this and if there's any agenda it leans heavy on, it's Nihilism. If you're an activist in real life, that's a beautiful and powerful tool I encourage you to continue to exercise but in this situation I need compromise and I'd like you to be an activist for this story and script when collaborating with me.
Here's our constraints. Not to put anymore undue pressure on you but we're running out of time. As I've said the treatment has been getting feedback and as things normally go in the age of social media, things spread quick and I'm getting asked to pitch a 3rd draft script over the next month. I'd say we have to give the potential investors a good script within the next 40 days (from the date of this message so we're already running out of time).
Compensation - We're all hungry. I'm hungry too. I am already taking the necessary steps to secure the story rights. So any collaboration should not be changing the story elements to any drastic degree. The main thing is punching up the dialogue and fleshing out the environment. Hopefully we can negotiate in the 17 to 26% range but lets save the difficult stuff for later till after we meet.
Please provide samples of your work, and a little bit about yourself when inquiring, thank you.
