Code Refinement & WordPress Architecture Facelift

WordPress / PHP Developer Needed for Code Review & Architecture Cleanup I’m looking for an experienced WordPress / PHP developer to review and improve an existing custom WordPress build and help define a more stable, reusable architecture. Project overview: • Custom WordPress site built as a business directory • Uses Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) for custom post types and structured data • Uses Elementor Pro for dynamic front-end templates • Includes custom PHP logic for filtering, relationships, and site-specific behavior Primary issue: • The site works, but much of the custom logic was assembled quickly with the help of AI tools (Cursor / AI-assisted development) • My concern is long-term stability, maintainability, and adherence to WordPress best practices What I’m looking for: • Review the existing codebase (theme and custom logic) • Identify risks, inefficiencies, or structural issues • Refactor and clean up custom PHP where needed • Recommend and possibly implement a cleaner architecture (theme vs plugin separation) • Help produce a stable, reusable foundation that can support a second, similar site Nice to have / discussion topics: • Guidance on whether multiple related sites should share a central data structure or remain separate • Best practices for scaling and reusing this type of directory-based build Ideal developer: • Strong WordPress and PHP experience • Comfortable working with existing code (not a greenfield build) • Familiar with ACF-heavy, data-driven sites • Comfortable reviewing and improving AI-generated code This would start as a review and cleanup project, with the potential for ongoing collaboration if it’s a good fit.
