Hi There Regarding HTTP and HTTPS. It's pretty straight forward, SSL will be installed at ELB level and it'll forward HTTP to the EC2, and as EC2 are ephemeral so it doesn't really makes sense to install SSL on EC2 level. In terms of security all your resources should be in private VPC which will be accessed via the Bastion. Besides I'm super expert in AWS.
