I have a large forum based website (100,000 members approx) and a couple of smaller ones on a dedicated Centos 5 server with lots of memory.
I set this up from a vanilla install however as I have a lot of other work on I havent got it setup as I want and am rusty with my unix so want an EXPERT unix admin to help me correct some things, optimise others, and sort the DNS out to a few of my sites (I used zonedit for DNS) as I dont have it setup right for my small sites but dont have time to mess about trying to sort it. The sites all work, however I have duplicate content issues for 2 of them. Where if someone types in the server address
[url removed, login to view]
it redirects straight to my main big website! I didnt have this on my last server but cant recall what I did when I set it up.
These are the main things that need doing.
Sort DNS out and ensure there is no conflict meaning duplicate content (there are now only three DNS zones (domains/sites) as I deleted 2 old sites that are no longer required.
Install [url removed, login to view] so I can monitor main system health via a browser.
Make sure directory listing is turned off ( I think I have sorted this now though)
Install phpmyadmin - I tried to install it but havent managed to get it working.
Remove unwanted users ( will say which) and their home directory.
Lockdown for security possibly using iptables if it wont be too restrictive (I backup remotely to a secure ssh server manually most nights)
Due to the stupid partition setup by the server providers, I kept running out of space on the var/www/html partition, so I had to transfer all my sites to a new folder on the oher partition in the home directory. I want to check all the settings for this are right and not contributing to my duplicate content issue (eg/ I want to know that var/www/html/ is not serving any content.)
Check [url removed, login to view] is error free (Im 99% sure its fine)
Also, I am going to be using an MX relay host to get better mail delivery to yahoo and btinternet. I need you to point my postfix server to this service and check its all ok. My mail server got a spam listing ages ago and even though Ive added DKIM, spf keys and lots more, we still cant get off yahoo blacklist, and we cant get a new IP from server provider, so we are outsourcing email sending for our main site.
Advise on any other security fixes or additions that will benefit my server and sites and add as necessary.
This server is a fully operational business class server, and as such my sites need to keep their 99% uptime!! The winning bidder must have proven very good unix skills and this job has to be done seamlessly so as to not (apart from the odd service restart) cause any downtime.
