I need to link tables to an Access database from an SQLEXPRESS database located on a remote server - 'Windows Server Standard 2008 SP2'. The Access front-end database will be located on a local PC in the office. The PC is connected to the Office network via a DOMAIN configuration. The SQLSERVER is located on a remote server with no existing links to our office server/network.
I have managed to set up the Access database to successfully link to the SQLEXPRESS server from a PC joined locally to the remote server. I am running into problems when I try to connect remotely.
I believe there are settings that need to be configured on the remote server to allow remote connections to the SQLEXPRESS server. There may also be setting that need to be configured on the local server, I’m not sure. I will also need the Access database set up to connect to the SQLEXPRESS server (connection string, etc).
I will be able to give you the details so that you can use a remote desktop connection to connect to the Remote server and also our local server. This way you will be able to log on to our local server and make sure the Access database connects to the SQL server successfully. More information will be given to the chosen freelancer.
I'm happy to help you with this. I understand your problem perfectly, in fact last week I solved this exact problem for another client who was using a colocated server.
