Installing Wordpress plugin that is creating error message

I'd like to install a Carousel plugin ([url removed, login to view]) into my self-hosted Wordpress site ([url removed, login to view]) I successfully unzipped and activated the plugin, but when I attempted to create the carousel (to fill it with images) I got this message:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function update_user_meta()

I'm not sure what to do next. Could use some help.
