Manually update 2 Wordpress installs without losing content

I have 2 Wordpress installs installed by Installatron at my web hoster.
I forgot about the updates for a couple of years. Now the installs are no longer functional.
I can reinstall but I'd lose all content posted in the past - and I don't want that.
Webhoster says the only way to go is manually updating the Wordpress installs.
I don't know how to do this myself and need assistance or someone to do it for me.
Maybe we also need to recover passwords.
It would be nice if Installatron would be able to take over updates again after the job.
