My name is Graham Moran. I’m 30 years old and come from Ireland. I have been teaching English in Korea since May 2000 and working as a freelance English proofreader since 2001. I have extensive experience in the area of technical writing, editing and proofreading. I promise a swift, reliable service of the highest quality.
I graduated from Rice College High School, Ennis in 1994 achieving the highest grades in both English and Biology. My high school results enabled me to enter the University of Limerick, one of the most prestigious universities in Ireland, where I was awarded a BSc. Degree in Industrial Biochemistry.
As part of my university studies, I spent 9 months on cooperative work experience in the Quality Assurance Department of Roche, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. I was involved in updating and maintaining the plant SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), which explained clearly the specific instructions for all procedures throughout the production plant and research laboratories. A large part of my job detail was also to closely review production batch records and monitor for any discrepancies.
Shortly after graduating, I took a position as editor/proofreader at Compuscript Ltd. (editing arm of Elsevier Science in Shannon, Ireland), where we edited journal papers in the areas of chemical engineering, chemistry, biochemistry, physics, and economics from all corners of the globe. This position required a high level of English, exceptional writing skills, a thorough understanding of the differences between English in the UK and the US (depending on the paper’s final destination), and great attention to detail. My technical background and writing ability suitably equipped me for the position.
During my tenure as editor, the opportunity arose to go to Korea to teach English. Having always been interested in English, the idea of traveling to the East and experiencing a different culture while teaching, excited and intrigued me. I spent 2 years in Seoul teaching English Conversation to kindergarten, elementary and middle school students. I have also done some part-time freelance editing/writing work for an English textbook publishing company, as well as other proofreading projects for different companies. At present I hold the position of English Instructor at Gyeongsang National University, where I have been since March 2003. I am married to a Korean woman and am well settled in Korea now.
Because of my scientific background and editing experience, I am always looking for an interesting and challenging opportunity to arise. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
Yours sincerely,
Graham Moran
