I am a self employed freelance computer consultant providing support services to local small business and home users. Throughout my previous career, I have had the opportunity to gain over 12 years experience within an IT role, ranging from 1st and 2nd line support to 3 years in a management position. I have been involved with the design, installation and support of computer and telecommunication networks of between a few users up to hundreds of users, including networks requiring elevated security requirements due to the confidentiality of the information on the network. My technical skills are based mainly within the Windows environment though I have had experience with Linux. I have maintained and configured network equipment including 3Com hubs and switches, Cisco routers and switches, twisted pair and fibre cabling for both LAN and WAN networks. I enjoy learning new technical skills, always reading and researching new technologies (currently reading “Beautiful Security” edited by Andy Oram & John Viega) with a particular interest in IT security. I have been described as a \'personable\' individual, able to communicate technical subjects to non-technically minded people of various levels from shop floor to C level. I have been a line manager for 10 technical people providing coaching and feedback, to ensure that they have the necessary resources to fulfill their job.
