I've worked as a professional journalist for the past 20-plus years, as both editor and reporter. I lean toward news reporting, but am skilled at everything from movie reviews to travel writing to Q&As. I also enjoy research and I type fast--so even data entry or retyping could help pay the bills. When Covid hit, my alternative weekly paper in Northern California shut its doors. I've been unemployed since then, struggling to decide what to do from here. I'm open to suggestions!

I was hired on at the CN&R, an alternative weekly newspaper in Northern California, as the associate editor in mid-2006. Within a year, I was promoted to managing editor. In my capacity there, I participated in almost every editorial aspect of putting out the paper, from generating story ideas to assigning and editing them, or reporting and writing them myself. I worked at the Press-Enterprise newspaper in Riverside, Calif., as a copy editor and designer. I started in the news department, mostly copy editing, and worked my way to features, where I was able to add design to my repertoire. During my time there, I was asked to take the reins on a new publication, called "the d," that was published five days a week in the Palm Springs area. I was one of three employees to launch the publication, which did quite well.
