Convention Centre, Science City, Kolkata (Thesis)

A vision of Calcutta of the 21st century that Science City promises to present to the world is reflected in the architectural expression of the Convention Centre. A choice of state of art construction techniques was inevitable. Use of suspension cables to span large spaces is a direct response to the recently built Vidyasagar Setu (New Hooghly Bridge) over the river Hooghly, which besides being a visible symbol of the West Edge, along with the Calcutta Metro is looked upon with immense pride as symbols of technological advancements by most modern day Calcuttans. The Convention Centre at the Science City is a continuation of this image.
