Dissertation for BSc Computer Science [Keele University]2009
This paper is a written account of a usability study into next generation games consoles. Both interface and usability designs have undergone a large amount of research as a whole, however, there has been little research into whether games console interfaces obey similar rules.” The investigation detailed in this report sets out to determine whether this was the case. It was accomplished through a series of interviews, questionnaires and user testing on each of the consoles, through a variety of methods, all of which were carried out under stringent observation, in order to ensure that all tests were carried out in an honest and fair manner, as well as ensuring that no bias was enacted upon the investigation. The methods which were used for testing purposes, followed strict usability testing guidelines set out at www.usability.gov, as well as a full course of lectures on the subject led by Prof. Pearl Brereton and Dr. Mahmood Niazi of Keele University’s Computing and Mathematics depart
