Update custom taxonomy picker control (SPFx Angular 2 component)

Currently the taxonomy picker displays the WHOLE taxonomy structure. However, we would like to be able to pass it ListName and FieldName that points to a taxonomy field, that will display only that term set for that field. However, if no ListName and FieldName are specified, then it should default back to behave as currently.
We are looking for a simple (not a complete re-write) and elegant solution.
We have further work we will be putting out related to this in the future too via this site
