I am looking for a 2D artist for a simple video game for children. I've been commissioned to implement a simple match-style game for very young children, and I require the services of a good 2D artist, preferably one who has done work for video games in the past. In a nutshell, the game will have several themes, including: farm animals, wild animals, pirates, space, sports, numbers, and letters. Aside from the character sprites, every theme would require a custom border for the game area, as well as a full-screen background image to fit the theme. I have a list of suggested images for each theme (5-10 per theme), which I will make available to anyone interested, but you are free to suggest your own images for the theme as well. The graphics need to be "cartoony", to appeal to very young children - cute characters, colorful backgrounds, etc. I will also probably need one or two animations for each theme for visual feedback when the child makes a match or does something else that triggers an in-game event. This isn't a business project per-se, which means it has a very limited budget. The artist will receive in-game credit and will be contacted first for any future design work (there are many things in the queue), and can use the game as part of their portfolios if they wish. We will also provide references for any future clients of the artist. In a nutshell - anyone with a fair/low bid and adequate skills will be chosen for the work.

## Deliverables

Deliverables include the original photoshop (or other sources) images of all work agreed upon. If photoshop files are not provided, several sizes of each image should be provided so that changes can be made to fit the game. *UPDATE* The following is a prelimiary list of the assets I require for the game: The current list of themes includes: farm animals, wild animals, pirates, space, sports, numbers, and letters. For each of the themes, there are several static images, one full-screen 1024x768 background, and a theme-related game board, or rather, game board border. The game is a straight match-type of game. The child (or rather, the parent) would load up a level with a them and be presented with a game board, let's say 4 by 4. In this case, there are 16 tiles lined up in a 4 by 4 configuration. Each of the tiles has one picture from the set of pictures of that theme. The level also has the one background for that theme, and the board or board border is also related to that theme. So, as an example, in a farm-animal theme, the background would be something like a farm theme with a barnyard and a field, and the game border texture would be crate or hay-like. I have the following list of pictures for the tiles of each theme: Farm animals - Cow, pig, chicken, sheep, horse, duck, dog, cat. Wild animals - Lion, Tiger, Monkey, Hippo, Zebra, Giraffe, Snake, Parrot, Bear, Wolf, Penguin, Elephant, Turtle, Rabbit. Pirates theme - Pirate, parrot, ship, treasure chest, treasure map, pirate flag, island, cannon. Space theme - Planet, Comet, rocket, satellite, astronaut, alien, shuttle, half-moon, lunar rover. Sports theme - basketball, baseball, football, hockey stick, baseball bat, football helmet, baseball glove, soccer ball, tennis racket. Numbers theme - numbers from 0 to 9 Letters theme - letters from A-Z The style should be caroon-like, and the visual theme should be bright and colorful to appeal to very young children. Since the game board can be as small as 2 by 2 tiles, I would require the pictures to be at least 200x200 pixels, as the game will run in 1024x768. I will resize them to a smaller size for larger game boards to fit on the screen. For the animation, I actually need something to give visual feedback when the child does something to trigger an event in the game - like when a match is made. I had only two ideas regarding the animation. Either make all the visible tiles with picture perform one frame of animation (for example, the cow winks when a match is made), which would require two frames for each picture, or a general animated character for each theme, separate from the gameboard, does something interesting whenever visual feedback is required. For example, in the game EETS ([login to view URL]), there is a persistant animated character in the lower left hand corner which does facial animations depending on the game context. Something like that for each theme would probably be good as well.
