SUMMARY
The Fund Accountant is responsible for maintaining general ledgers for operating, plant, and endowment funds, annual budget data, assisting with year-end audit, budget variance reports and other accounting functions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Four-year degree in accounting or related field.
Experience working in accounting, including, accounts receivable, journal entries, financial statements, budgets, and overall knowledge of principals in fund accounting, a plus.
Payroll experience preferred.
Fund accounting preferred but not required.
Ability to work a minimum of 37.5 hours and five days per week.
Able to use 10 key adding machine.
Must be proficient in Microsoft software applications and data base programs.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to positively represent the agency to internal and external contacts.
Meets the general qualifications for employment as outlined in the institution's personnel policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial:
Maintains general ledgers for operating, plant, endowment and annuity funds on a monthly basis. Maintains necessary accounting records and data to support ledger work. Enters and maintains chart of accounts for all funds
Process payroll in absence of payroll manager.
Reconciles church/donor/pledge receivables from development department and reclassifies gifts monthly.
Approves accounts payable cash disbursement procedures.
Prepares budget allocations and enters annual budget data for the institution from allocations. Prepares various annual budget reports and analyses as needed. Creates budget worksheets in Excel for area input from accounting system data.
Responsible for running monthly budget variance reports (cost center P& L ) and distributing them to the area directors
Prepares year-end audit work and the necessary schedules as assigned. Works with auditors in various duties for account analysis and any other audit requirements. Supplies auditors with necessary year-end reports for their preparation of statements. Co-ordinates with other accounting personnel to supply auditors with requested information needed.
Records and distribute to appropriate areas food cards during food drive and gifts-in-kind as received during year.
Assists Treasurer in preparing pooled investment transfer schedules as needed and reconciles pooled investment accounts quarterly and records to ledger.
Provides detailed analysis for General Ledger reports as needed by areas in analyzing budget variances
Provides assistance to other accounting staff regarding accounting software and ledger requirements and accuracy.
Completes various outside reporting i.e. State Cost Report and DDM annual reporting
Be able to accept and perform other job assignments that are related to work.
Take initiative for training either by self-study or pre-approved plan of training by supervisor.
Administrative:
Fills in for other positions as needed to cover for coworker absences (e.g. vacation)
Handles incoming mail, including endorsing checks and distributing financial documents
Files correspondence and other documents as needed
Maintains confidentiality
Records and processes credit card receipts
Participates in the agency's Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) program as needed
Represents Baptist Children's Homes of NC, Inc. in a professional and Christian manner.
Willing to perform other duties as assigned.

EQUIPMENT:
Ability to operate standard office machines such as copier, computer, fax, calculator, etc. Ability to work within Outlook, Excel, and Word software programs.
