I was wondering if you could please help me with my essay. It is supposed to be in French but I translated the question to English.

According to Alice Mary Killen, Inès de Las Sierras, a story written in 1837, is the work of the romantic author "who borrowed the most from the 'terrifying' novel", even if Charles Nodier nevertheless made sure to "bring these debauchery of the frenzied imagination into the framework of romanticism" (The Terrifying Roman or black novel from Walpole to Ann Radcliffe and his influence on French literature until 1840, Paris, Champion, 1967, p. 187 ).
On the other hand, Pierre-Georges Castex proposes that Inès de Las Sierras can be reduced to "a fairly banal story of ghosts" (Lehant fantastique en France de Nodier à Maupassant, Paris, José Corti, 1951, p. 163) .
Comment on these positions by illustrating the parentage of this story with the English Gothic novel, without forgetting to highlight what could testify to the originality of this fantastic production belonging to Black Romanticism.
Beyond the thematic elements, do not forget to include in your analysis the aesthetic aspect (terror and / or horror) which will allow you to determine whether Nodier is more in the extension of Radcliffe or that of Lewis, and to classify this story in one of the categories of Todorov [fantastic-wonderful, fantastic-strange or pure fantasy].
