Unix script and expression script needed

I need two scripts...and I will be honest. My daughter is taking a perl class and is really struggling...she has two assignments...I want to have these scripts written so I can help her as she tries to write them...this is the only way for me to assist her...anyways if you are interested here is what i need in brief:

script 1: add a user to a database and generate a random password, open a file, etc...

script 2: a regular expression script that accepts user input and checks for errors and then iterates thru a file

I know some PERL...but it would take me awhile- I need this written like a beginner so I can help my daughter understand and learn.
