Wordpress - theme customization and simple PHP coding

Using a custom theme on my site TheGlamourousLife.com.
I would like to make two changes:
1) Need a new content type added to the site TheGlamourousLife.com. The content type will look like one of the approx. 468x200 boxes in the middle column of a results page like [login to view URL]
So a box with title, text, 100x100 picture - it will look EXACTLY like these boxes, but behave differently. On clicking, the user will be taken to another site.
Need to be able to enter content in the admin area for this box - it will be the same identical box on every story page (every page except the homepage).
2) I need a way to have certain ad units not show at all on the homepage. I don't know enough PHP to properly edit the theme for this.
