Backstepping Based Closed-Loop Control of Type1 Diabetes

In recent decades, control design of biomedical system has got the attention of researchers. It is a dynamic field of research. The dynamic variability between same and different individual poses a major challenge in designing of control for biological systems. The control of blood glucose level is a challenging problem now a day’s which need a more robust closed loop control system because it is a prime feature for the treatment of diabetes. Regulating the glucose levels is very necessary to avoid hyperglycemia (<60mg/dL) and hypoglycemia (>180mg/dL) in type I diabetes. In this research work, a closed-loop system to control the blood glucose level in patients with diabetes mellitus type I is proposed. This control scheme is based on PID and backstepping controller which is implemented on a linear system. A model less approach is used for depicting glucose insulin system. When the diabetic patient is subjected to a glucose meal disturbance or variations in the measured glucose.
