Javascripts load needs to be moved at the end of page, also both javascript and css should be grouped together in one file. Also I recommend using for both css and js a CDN(maxcdn/cdn77 are ok). For cache, the best results I had with the ExpressCache module, it's a full page cache, license required. I work with PrestaShop since 1.3, I have customers with stores which have over 50.000 products.
