Raspberry Pi small project

Hi, I'm a graduate student pursuing my masters degree in Embedded Systems. I have worked on various standard embedded platforms such as 8051, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Beagle board, mini2440 etc. I recently completed a project on Rpi which dealt with reading RFID tags and take actions (in my case, switching a GPIO) if a correct tag is detected, but course of action can be anything. (in this case, reading / writing an SQL DB). Kindly consider me for this project and provide more info regarding the project. (ie which RFID reader you propose to use and etc) - Dhruv Vyas

Hi, I am already using raspberry pi for similar purpose. I believe you are trying to use raspi as rfid based authentication system. I have used raspi as for banking announcement system (bank token number display), projection mapping (this project is in progress in freelancer), media player/server etc. This looks simple one except the rfid interface. There are several options for interfacing rfid sensor with raspi. But I haven't used this before. Apart from this rest all are just data processing. We can make raspi as client of central database server. This will have lot of advantages and I will let you know the design in detail once my bid is selected. Raspi can use native programming (rather python) to make it optimal for execution and not to load the system much. Thanks!

HI, I have done previous project with RFID and Raspberry PI. Please provide me complete details regarding project and please clarify below issues. 1.) What is the RFID reader you are using? Good day, Anytime someone says "small project"... I know that is not the case. So let me ask you some questions. 1) you say display it on a screen with a background jpg. Do you want to display it on a touchscreen connected to the PI or on a TV screen? 2) What RFID reader are you thinking of using? 3) Is the SQL MySQL? 4) is the SQL server running on the PI or on another computer? 5) It sounds like you will have multiple PI's reading RFID and transmitting to a SQL server. This is no problem. Again, just need to know what RFID reader you plan on using. I Have a couple PI's that I use for development. So let me know more about the project. I am in Chicago. Mark

Hi, I have plenty of programming experience with both PHP/MySQL and microcontrollers (Arduino mainly). I'm also a Raspberry PI fan and i'm myself working on a project with it. I also have been managing GNU/Linux servers for 10+ years. Finally, i also have a background on RFID and NFC. So i guess this project would be a nice fit. From my understanding, Raspberry Pi is acting as Client and there are many such clients located at various geographical locations. There is a server, which is driving everything. Server design: There will be an SQL server installed, which is maintaining a relational database. It contains all RFIDs (which are configurable through an interface) and logs clients activities. So, at any time, an admin who has an access to server, can find out the complete log for a RFID or for a client-id i.e. Rasberry Pi ID. All incoming connections to the server will be validated for security reasons. An ID will be given to a Raspberry Pi the moment it's installed on field. That ID will not be reused. Client design: I have a raspberry pi with me which is running Linux. So i'd be testing that, client will connect with server with some credentials. As it passes those, server will send the client the required info and would wait for RFID scan. Rest would be same as mentioned in project description.
