I run a small lab in a research institute, working collaboratively with a few colleagues. I like to keep my lab notebook on-line, so that collaborators can immediately see any recent developments on my research projects. I have been a part of the Open Wetware project ([login to view URL]), and have generally enjoyed their notebook format, but would like a solution that permits a greater control over the design of the site.
I would like a wiki-based lab notebook, which is identical to the openwetware model in as many ways as possible and
includes:
RSS feed of recent changes tagged by user
Support for multiple projects
Delete pages and projects
Import existing notebook from openwetware
Multiple user accounts and default font highlighting for each account
Search project text
Access control to non-account holders (permissions set by project)
Google docs embedding using iframe
Print notebook to hard copy
Automated backup to server
History of changes preserved forever with timestamps
For an example of a notebook (not my own) see: [login to view URL]:Harvard/2009/Notebook/Harvard_iGEM_2010
You are free to rip off as much of openwetware as you want, as long as you put in the features above. However, if you want to use a different flavor wiki, that would work too.
