To get ripped abs is perhaps the most desired fitness goal and also perhaps the hardest to achieve. A ripped abs is much more forceful a style statement than any of the costliest brands available in the market. It takes a multipronged strategy, which is the correct combination of dedication, nutrition, and workout, to achieve that dream body.
First and foremost, one needs to get over the infatuation with a particular poster image, and come to terms with one’s physical limitations. We all have our particular genetic structure that can’t be moulded to our whims and fancies. That understood, one needs to move on to a realistic fitness routine.
Fitness routine, for most of us, means frantically performing abs exercises—ball kick- outs, side crunches, leg raises, squats etc. Nutrition, somehow, is overlooked. It usually turns out to be the most neglected factor, not realizing that right food contributes good 90% to this “get ripped abs” conquest. All the hard work done in the gym goes waste if not complemented with the required diet. Again, diet does not mean either starving yourself to lose fat, or gulping down protein shakes to build muscle. Target 1gram of protein per pound of bodyweight, besides spacing out meals at frequent intervals. Don’t completely wipe out fat .Do treat yourself to an occasional chocolate shake for a change. Too much restraint can kill the motivation and cause burn out.
Finally, pump the iron. Be careful again. Don’t drive yourself crazy with too many sets and reps. Aim for three to four workouts a week. Combo exercises which work multiple muscle groups like squats, crunches, are definitely better than isolation exercises. Do not rush through the reps. Deliberate on each movement, breathing in and out calmly. Hold on the strain for a few seconds, and then return slowly to the original position. Take a two to three minute break between sets.
You will need grit and resolve to sustain your efforts till you get that abs rippling under your shirt. Plan intelligently, and implement devotedly-getting ripped abs would no longer be a dream.
