I receive Australian horse racing data in zip files. Each file contains the data for one meeting and usually consists of around eight races.
The data is in two sections. The first sections, which consists of the race details, the horse names, the riders etc., imports or exports into MS Excel 2007 into separate cells, and is satisfactory. The second sections which contain details of each horse's past five to ten performances, include items such as race times, weights carried, beaten distances, race class, race dates, jockeys etc., each appear on one line, with the data mostly separated by commas. I need these details to be broken up and entered into separate cells in Excel 2007. I then need the data to be sent to MS Access 2007 for storage.
I have attached a Sample folder which includes a zip file for a Moonee Valley meeting and an Excel 2007 spreadsheet for race number 9 of that meeting. On the spreadsheet, I have notes which I hope explain what is required.
The race files are in HTML format and the source data can be accessed by right clicking on the files.

To start, I wanted to commend you on the excellent write-up which you have provided as this is critical to assess the level of effort involved. The fact that there’s a determined file layout used for this rows it can definitely be done through Macro’s.I have a few questions though:
1) You specified that the race data has to be sent to MS Access for storage. Will the records be stored in a single table or would the data need to be normalized before it is transferred. As you might know normalized data allows you to reduce data redundancies and perform excellent queries and comparisons between the horses, jockey’s etc. Also do you want that transfer of records to MS Access included in the project?
Also, what data or fields would you use as a unique key to be used on the transfer i.e. what data records can be used to validate that there’s not a potential duplicate in the data being moved to MS Access. That is something that can be included in the code if the move is going to be automated, to ensure your data stays clean.
2) Do you need your own custom excel formula or would you want the code to be executed through a combination of keyboard keys like CTRL+M for example.
3) I also just want to confirm, that the layouts are pretty much fixed. You don’t expect any fields or layouts to be changed in the near future on the files that you receive.
4) Will you be responsible for moving the data to MS Access or is that part of the project. The move is a very simple task to include in the code. It all depends if you require any other slicing and dicing of the data prior to the data being transferred.
I can complete this project in 2 days for you. I say 2 days as I work in the evenings, however I am fully committed to getting it done. I have worked with these type of projects for the last 10 years. Office automation and integration are areas I am very strong in.
I also do not require an up front payment, or milestone payment. I would accept payment only on project completion and after you are satisfied with the results.

You want to extract data from a file containing a horses recent history and have it cross reference with an upcoming race that the horse is in (to show how it compares to the other runners history).
You've specified the position and breakdown of the data. The rest should be quite easy.
