I am a US citizen who has worked for 10 years and several different global companies. I currently freelance for small businesses consulting in database design and business analysis. My approached to database design is forward thinking. I normalize table structure to a point where the design is easily transferable to new database administrators. I also build databases with self maintenance features easy to use for those unfamiliar with database design such as executives and operations managers. In my experience this approach minimizes rebuilds and up-training during consistent changing and growing business models. Not following this approach I could also build a scrap database in a short period of time but it would be costly with upkeep and modifications.
