I would like simple html code that will display a little pdf, mp3, or jpg file when te user clicks on a button. The preview buttons will be in a table. The URL below shows you what I would like it to look like.

I want to show a little part of a larger file immediately when a user clicks on a "preview" button. The user can then decide whether to open the whole document. Some of the files will be large. I would like to minimize user wait time. (I can create small preview files, if needed, but it would be better if the preview button just opens the files themselves.)
I would like the html file to work on Firefox and IE on a PC, and Firefox and Safari on a Mac.
I think it may be possible to do this with jquery.
My grasp of css is minimal, so if you can do it without css, that would be great. Otherwise. do it with the easiest possible css.

Actually it is not possible to show some part of the whole file as preview since when you load it will load completely. Rather I suggest you to make thumbnail for each file and when click on the preview button the thumbnails will be displayed as lightbox popup and it can be done with Jquery.

You're correct in pointing out that it can be done with jQuery. The library you need is the one for implementing MODAL POP-UP. There are several clever ways to use it. I am, however, not sure what you mean by "showing a little part" of a larger file. If the file is a pdf document, for example and I click on the link to pop it up, the complete document should just pop up. Right? If it's a media, it just loads and then you can play it if you like or not. You might need to clarify what you mean by previewing.
