Magento 2 Extension Install Issue

We have a fresh install of Magento 2.2.x that was updated to 2.3.2, and have installed a payment method extension. This extension is crashing when checking out. It appears to be related to the capture method code or a change in Magento 2.2.x and 2.3.2, we need a quick diagnosis of the cause and the cause of the error resolved. Instead this error occurs. Steps to reproduce: Add item to cart, and checkout using credit card.
